2. Planning register data

Our digests are built from public planning registers that local authorities must keep open for public inspection. We process: site address and postcode, the description of the proposed works, application type and size, decision and dates, the council's reference and a link to the council's own file. These records can relate to an identifiable household, so we treat them as personal data.

  • No applicant data resold. We do not include applicant names, applicant contact details, or other personal details of applicants in our product. Where our sources carry them, we strip them on ingest.
  • Lawful basis: legitimate interests. Purpose: helping local building trades find out about approved work in their area. Necessity: the information is already public by law, is minimal, and is limited to what is needed to identify the job. Balancing: low privacy impact, since the data is a statutory public record about property works and contains no applicant identity, and individuals can object (below). We keep a record of this assessment.
  • Source: the data comes from the public registers via an aggregator, not from the individuals. Because we do not hold applicant identities, and contacting every household would involve disproportionate effort, we provide this notice publicly (UK GDPR Art. 14(5)(b)).
  • Retention: register records are held while they are relevant to current digests and then archived or deleted, normally within 24 months. 12 months after your last interaction with us
  • Recipients: our subscribers (trade businesses). Our terms require them to use leads only for lawful purposes such as door-knocking and postal contact, and not to send unsolicited email or SMS to individuals.

3. Who else sees data

Service providers acting on our instructions: hosting, email delivery and payment processing Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (DNS and content delivery), and our server hosting provider. Professional advisers and authorities where legally required. Where a provider is outside the UK we rely on an adequacy decision or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement/Addendum.

4. Your rights

You can ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. If you live at a property that appears in a digest and want it suppressed from future digests, email us with the address and we will add it to a suppression list. Contact: hello@scaffsignal.co.uk. If you are unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
